  10. Well, I installed MUFS successfully and was very pleased with myself.
  11. I left most of my files unprotected not feeling any need to protect
  12. them until I moved my machine to a more public place than my bedroom.
  13.  
  14. After a nightmare about deletion of all files on my harddisk I decided
  15. it could not hurt to protect sys: at least.  That way my setup would
  16. be safe.  What I wanted to do was to setowner to root on all files on
  17. sys: and then give read and execute priviliges to all in the group of
  18. root.  Was this wrong, anybody?

  20. I did the above with some trouble.  I had the LimitedDosProtect (or
  21. something) set as default (unknowingly), and the only program to set
  22. the group bits was MProtect.  All was fine.

  24. Then for some reason I could not save the multiuser.group file.
  25. CygnusEd saved an empty file in its place and made a backup (.bak)
  26. file.  Now I cannot log in!  The sys: partition is protected from
  27. reading by all except the group of root, but the group of root does
  28. not exist, and anyway you start as "nobody" and can't even read the
  29. login program and libs.

  31. Why can I not log in?  The passwd file is ok, and all libs are
  32. provided, but still I get login failed.

  34. I repent and will do amends if just someone could tell me how to
  35. access my computer again.  The passwd file is intact, I have a copy of
  36. the multiuser.group file, and I have copies of all the
  37. multiuser.keyfiles.
